Education & Experience
Received Bachelor, Masters (M. Ed) and (Ed. S) at Stetson University and earned Doctorate (Ed. D) at University of Central Florida.
Was elementary school guidance counselor at Brooksville Elementary and Casselberry Elementary for 25 years.
Previous teaching was in area of math, industrial arts and self-contained sixth grade.
Contributions
Held several positions in Hernando County Association of Counseling and Development (HCACD) before serving as president of the organization.
During his years serving the schools in Hernando County, he introduced the Terrific Kid certificate program sponsored by local McDonald’s franchises, and appeared as contributor to a local radio program during Guidance and Counseling Week.
While serving in Seminole County Schools, Dr. Kalashian produced a half-hour television program explaining the process of placing children in exceptional child programs. He also appeared on the local TV channel with a “Minute Memo” explaining briefly the duties of elementary school guidance counselors, which ran intermittently for three months.
Further contributions to the counseling profession were promoted during his presidency of the Seminole County Personnel and Guidance Counselors Association.
Lastly, during this period he was cotherapist working with adjudicated teens, which included those who committed crimes and were sexually and/or physically abused. Also, during his time at Seminole County Mental Health Center, he pioneered family group counseling.
The material outlined in the publication was presented to the State Association of Guidance Counselors conference held in Daytona Beach, FL in 1983.

Before leaving Seminole County Schools and transitioning to Hernando County Schools, Dr. Kalashian was a delegate to the Florida State Teacher’s Association convention in Tampa. During his time at Seminole County, he served as Chair of the Bargaining Committee, known then as The Salary Committee. This committee chair is almost always appointed by the president of the County Teachers Association. Dr. Kalashian was privileged to be the only elected chair in Seminole County History.
