Dr. Kalashian began his association with University of West Florida after retiring from Hernando County Public Schools.
Classroom experience at UWF included teaching in the areas of Educational Psychology, Counseling Education, and Research Techniques including statistics, Almost all these classes were at Master’s level or higher.
Shortly after arriving at UWF, Dr. Kalashian accepted a position as Research Consultant to the “At Risk” Master’s program along with other teaching positions.
While working with the development of the “At Risk” program, he modified several of the existing courses to enhance their effectiveness and completed the development of all courses required in the master’s program with the specialty of working with “At Risk” children. As coordinator, he presented the program for acceptance.
The process of gaining approval of this new program including the following steps:
Presentation of the program to the division committee for meeting the university requirement.
Communicated by phone and conference with State Certification Bureau for use in renewing the 5-year state teaching certificate.
Articulate Escambia & Santa Rosa County Schools for acceptance of this specialty for master’s level salary consideration.
Further contributions to UWF included:
Co-presenter of a grant writing workshop through the Whitman Center for Public Service.
Student recruitment for master’s level programs for the Division of Teacher Education.
Supervised and evaluated the performances of intern teachers who were earning degrees at the Master’s level.
Coordinated the development of online courses for the “At-Risk” Program.
Worked with the coordinator of Santa Rosa County to establish off-campus courses for delivering M. Ed and Ed.S programs to Santa Rosa educators.
